“Obesity is really widespread.” –Joseph O. Kern II
Are you thinking outside the box when it comes to weight loss?
If you eat three meals every day, believe fasting is unhealthy, and “wing it” when it comes to managing your calorie intake, then you probably aren’t. If this is the case, you’re not alone. The majority of people eat too much for their activity level without even realizing it. What’s worse is that they convince themselves that this is the healthy thing to do because they have been brainwashed into believing that skipping a meal or two is not okay. My aim is to offer 3 simple weight loss tips that will change the way people think about eating. I go into more depth on each of these tips in my free 12-page report called “3 Simple Tips for Weight Loss”. You can access a free download link by “liking” my Facebook fan page.

“Every creature deserves a warm meal.” Dr. Evil is definitely thinking outside the box with his “sharks with lasers” idea. If he can do it, you can.
Tip #3: Three meals per day may be too much.
Today, we eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Why? Because that’s just how it is. We have become accustomed to eating three meals per day, which is fine except that it causes people to consume way too many calories without realizing it. If I were to eat a “normal” size breakfast, lunch, and dinner, I’m probably taking in at least 2,400 calories from meals alone. Add on the extra calories from snacking and liquid beverages which most people consume daily and you’re probably looking at around 3,000 calories per day. I’ll tell you right now unless you are an extremely active individual, 3,000 calories per day is almost always too much for weight loss.
Tip #2: Don’t be afraid of fasting.
Intermittent fasting is one of the easiest ways to eat less. Let’s face it. There aren’t many easy diet plans out there. It’s ironic that so many people focus on what to eat in order to lose weight when one of the best ways to lose weight is to simply not eat anything. After I began intermittent fasting, I was able to reduce my body fat percentage by over 65% in less than a year. Sure, there were other factors that contributed to this, but intermittent fasting was a big one. There are two main reasons people don’t consider intermittent fasting when trying to lose fat. First, they are afraid of causing their body to go into “starvation mode”. Second, they think it’s too difficult. I address both of these concerns in my report, so after reading it, you will be out of excuses.
Tip #1: Don’t leave your calorie intake to chance.
Tracking your calorie intake will increase your awareness of how much you are eating. I cannot stress how important awareness is when it comes to eating less. Most people are completely unaware of how much they are eating and more importantly, how much they should be eating. If you want to lose weight, you need to create a calorie deficit. In order to do this, you need to target specific numbers. You need to know approximately how much you need to be eating to lose weight. It may not be enough to simply “eat less” because if you still aren’t creating a calorie deficit, it won’t matter. The first step is figuring out this number and it may vary from week to week. “Like” my fan page to access an introductory video that demonstrates how I track my calorie intake from week to week. Here’s a little sneak preview. I use the chart below.

Watch the video for an explanation on how I track my weekly calorie deficit using this chart.
Have I convinced you to think outside the box yet?
If not, hopefully my free video and report will. I’ve been using these three tips for a couple of years now and they have helped me shed over 20 pounds, break into single-digit body fat percentage, and remain there for over a year and a half. All this time, I’ve still enjoyed my favorite foods on a regular basis. It will take some discipline at first, but once you make them habitual, it’s like putting fat loss on cruise control. Remember, if you’re doing what everyone else is doing, you are likely to end up like everyone else: overweight. These simple weight loss tips will help you avoid this. If you read the report and find this information useful, please share my fan page and spread the word!

Niko says:
I’m going to have to give intermittent fasting a go. I am currently sitting at 10% body fat, which is good, but if I can gain a single digit figure, without having to any extra (in fact it will be doing less), then I’m willing to have a go at it. I will use myself as a lab rat and post the results at my site.
Nate Armstrong says:
These are 3 excellent tips. I agree that intermittent fasting can make a world of difference. But what I really struggle with is knowing exactly how many calories I eat, especially on the weekends. Weekdays I do pretty good at sticking to a strict diet, but when the weekend hits, I fall apart. I’m going to start being more aware of how much I eat on the weekends.
Great post!

@ Niko,
10% is really good. I’d recommend fasting in conjunction with high-intensity cardio to help you break into the single digits.
@ Nate,
I don’t know the exact number of calories I eat. I approximate and I’m probably pretty far off sometimes, but I try to be conservative in my estimate. I eat a LOT on the weekends and that’s ok as long as you are active during your high-calorie days and you are creating a large deficit on the days leading up to it.

Nice job on the free report…didn’t get to watch the video yet. Really highlights the importance of having a diet that allows you to eat a caloric deficit without feeling overly restrictive.

Nice post dude, I like how you describe the irony of trying so hard to identify what to eat to lose weight; I was stuck with that conundrum for a long time!
Impressive results with the intermittent fasting too, well done

@ Darrin,
Thanks man! Enjoy!
@ Dave,
Thanks! Creating a calorie deficit without a super restricitive diet is probably the biggest thing that can help people lose weight over time if they can get it right.
@ Michael,
Thanks! The fasting wasn’t the only thing that helped me lose all that fat, but it definitely was a big factor. It allows for so much more flexibility with your food choices than what you get when you are eating regularly several times a day.
Tim - The Lean Look says:
Creating a weekly calorie deficit through intermittent fasting was one of the best things i’ve ever done. It’s easy to do once you get used to it; it gives you more wiggle room to drink beer and eat nachos; and last but not least, you don’t feel like you’re dieting.

@ Tim,
Ditto. I love beer and nachos and I don’t plan on giving them up anytime soon.
Michael McIntyre @somebodylied says:
Yeah unfortunately we have been brainwashed into thinking 3 square meals is the way to go, and then this doubled when body building propaganda came in. I made the switch this summer to eat 80% paleo then 20% anything. I skip breakfast and fast once or twice a week. My energy levels are through the roof and I put this down to the fact I am now a fat burner and when insulin is spiked it tends to make you feel sleepy. Look at Mediterranean culture, their diet is centred around carbs and they often have siestas. MY Brother also follows this tactic and is on phase 1 of visual impact, he is making great gains in lean muscle without even altering his diet significantly. I have a live case study I am doing of him, lets just hope he keeps it up and i dont end up with egg on my face lol as i would rather eggs in my stomach.

@ Michael,
I skip breakfast a few times a week and fast once or twice a week as well. This is probably the biggest factor that has helped me stay lean while still eating cheat meals regularly.
Josh @ Last Stop Fat Loss says:
Not until recently did I look into the possibility of fasting for weigh loss. I was definitely influenced by the starvation mode claim. I think it’s quite clear that the claims of starvation mode are exaggerated greatly, and that it won’t do much, if anything, to stop fat loss.
admin says:
@ Josh,
Very highly exaggerated. You don’t go into starvation mode until after you’ve been fasting for a couple of days. A 24 hour fast is an awesome way to lose fat. In fact, fat burning increases the most during hours 20-24.

Great tips!
I am in the process of incoporating fasting into my lifestyle and what a difference it makes. It may be hard for someone who has never done it before, but the results will amaze you.

Jordan - The Healthy Teacher says:
I love fasting for the simple reason that I don’t have to count calories anymore! I do agree that you should track calories in the initial stages, because as you say most people have no clue how much they are eating.
The first step should be awareness, then once people have that down, they won’t need to meticulously count calories anymore.
Great post!
Cheers,
Jordan

@ Tim. Me too, man. I can’t give up my beer. One a day or I go nuts!
My “nachos” is ice cream, though. That, I definitely should cut back on.
admin says:
@ Bryan,
The longer you keep it up, the easier it becomes.
@ Jordan,
I still estimate calories, but I find that when fasting regularly, it becomes much easier to hit my target while still enjoying cheat meals. So it really gives me peace of mind.

@ Megan,
Yes, it’s safe for anyone. I’d recommend not doing it more than once a week, though. Just so that it’s easier to stick to long-term.
@ Keith,
Yeah I’m not sure if this is something that will ever go mainstream because it’s not a diet which focuses on what to eat. Therefore, there is no way for companies in the food industry to spin it so that it will benefit them.
